The basic use of C.L.A.P. is to make switching between multiple CLAs (Command Line Applications) as easy as switching between multiple GAs (Graphical Applications). The reason this is so hard without C.L.A.P. is that all the CLAs are running in just one application (the Terminal.app program). You can click on the terminal icon in the doc, and it will bring all your running CLAs to the forground, but the only way to select a specific window is to click on it (if it is not behind other windows), use the mouse to select the correct window from the "Window" Menu (if you can tell which one it is), or try to cycle through all of them until the right one comes up.
